Verifying Auditory Accessibility

Kalani Pattison

To verify auditory accessibility look for the following things:

  • That no information is conveyed via sound only
  • That all audio files have correct transcripts
  • That all multimedia files have appropriate and correct captions
  • That in audio or multimedia elements, there is
    1. No background noise,
    2. The option to listen/watch without background noise (such as music or soundeffects)
    3. The important noise, such as voices or explanations, are at least 20 decibels louder than the background noise (which comes out to about 4X as loud as the background noise in most cases).
