Considerations for Physical Accessibility
Kalani Pattison
There are three main ideas for physical accessibility when it comes to teaching materials:
- Provide multiple ways to navigate/interact with materials (keyboard, mouse, voice, touch-screen)
- Include buttons, links, etc. that are big enough that people with difficulty with fine motor control can select them
- Avoid actions with time limits — where people need to react within a certain time to complete a task.
In general, structure content on Canvas and web pages as multi-level trees, to prevent the need for scrolling. However, you also need to balance the need to scroll with the need to click/load.
